I grew up in Western Washington and was shaped by civil rights, rock and roll and world music, and connections with all parts of the world. I went to college in New York City, worked at an alternative secondary school, love the Pacific Northwest and science fiction. I have taught at Centralia College for over 20 years, and I still love teaching and working with people.
I teach ENGL 098 and ENGL 099, which prepare students for college writing, and Intensive English Writing and Grammar, which prepares English as a second language speakers to write at college level. I advise international and other students.
My goal as a teacher is to empower each student. I try to meet you half-way - you put in the effort and I will too -- to help you improve how you read and write in English. I consider each person important, part of the larger community with something important to contribute. Because of these beliefs, all of my classes not only work on the skill of improving English, but also on becoming more effective and compassionate members of the community.
